Following the development of the Lusaka Sanitation Master Plan under the Millennium Challenge financing, the Government of the Republic of Zambia mobilized funds amounting to US$300 Million from the World Bank (WB), African Development Bank (AfDB), European Union (EU) and KfW to implement the Lusaka Sanitation Programme under the Lusaka Sanitation Master Plan. The programme will involve the following works:
Construction and Rehabilitation of Sewer networks, pump stations and treatment plants
Provision of sanitation facilities in public institutions as well sanitation marketing hygiene education.
Construction of faecal sludge management systems.
Strengthening of Lusaka Water and Sewerage Company’s (LWSC) Operation and maintenance of sewers.
Enhancing the institutional capacity of LWSC, Lusaka City Council, Ministry responsible for water and sanitation and other stakeholders to manage the implementation of the program and sustainability of the investment.
The project is now at procurement stage and works are expected to commence in the year 2017.
