The Department is responsible for providing financial advice to the Ministry of Water Development and Sanitation.

The Department has the following objective:

  1. To ensure all financial undertakings are executed and settled in a timely manner, in full compliance with applicable Financial Acts, Regulations and the Public Service General Orders and Circulars.

The Department has the following functions:

  1. Effectively manage the utilization of financial resources.
  2. Respond to Audit Queries from the Internal Audit Department and the Office of the Auditor General.

The department is overseeing two Projects: Integrated Small Towns in Western Province of Zambia (ISTWPZ) and Transforming Rural Lively hoods in Western Province of Zambia (TRLIWZ).

The two units under the department are:

  1. Below the line: mostly related to personal emoluments, salaries and advances.
  2. Above the Line: payments of expenditure related to provision of goods and services.
